Dos
Rios was birthed in 1993, with the acquisition of Black Watch Las Rocosa
Keygun (Las Rocosa Leo 4A x Just Sally Goodn of Black Watch) from Joseph
Hartnagle. Keygun was everything an Aussie should be; a beautiful and
brainy devoted companion, helpmate around the farm, and the producer of
beautiful pups who carried her comical personality. Keygun is the
foundation bitch for the breeding program at Dos Rios Farm, and we will be
forever grateful to Joseph for letting us have her, to Black Watch Kennels
for breeding this great girl, and to this courageous little Aussie for
establishing a strong baseline for our kennel. |

The first time Sue
(Mayerhofer) Moon and daughter, Susie, saw an Aussie was in the early 1970s
at a quarter horse show in Iowa. They were impressed at the brains and the
devotion of these dogs, following their people all over the fairgrounds
without a leash, and guarding horses and tack when their people were
showing. Sue started searching for Aussies, not an easy task at that
time, but before long had established Circle M Kennels in Iowa. After
much research and looking at various kennels, she met Ernest and Elaine
Hartnagle and fell in love with their Las Rocosa dogs, a love affair that
has lasted to this day.
Dos
Rios Farm came about when, after being out of the Aussie business for
several years, Sue bought an Aussie pup for her daughter’s birthday. For
Susie Bizarri and her husband, Dan, it was love at first sight when Keygun
came bouncing out of the shipping crate. And a second generation shared the
love of this breed.
When the Bizarri
family
decided to breed great Aussies for others, a name was needed to identify the
dogs they produced. Dos Rios, meaning two rivers, seemed a natural choice
when living between the Mississippi and Rock Rivers. Located in Western
Illinois a stones throw from the mighty Mississippi and next door to the
territory once inhabited by great Chief Black Hawk, Dos Rios came into
being. Susie and Dan have carried on with the dedication to raise quality
Aussies, along with their quarter and paint horse breeding program.
The
philosophy behind Dos Rios is simple. We strive to raise the healthiest
Aussies possible, biddable companions first, but always preserving the
working bloodlines that made this breed great. In addition, we want an
Aussie that is beautiful to look at. We aren’t a large kennel, but have
quality pups occasionally, reservations recommended. We are currently
pressing more into herding and the desire to learn and compete in that
area. There is also a third generation of Aussie enthusiasts coming up in
Jaime Nicole. Jaime is a natural dog person at three years, and someday
will be in the ring as a junior handler. Today, the coffee pot is always
on, and nothing is more enjoyable than sharing stories about these great
dogs.
